While the front looks handsome, I can't say the same about the back.

Another notable feature of the Note 8 is its Infinity Display, which first debuted on the Galaxy S8 earlier this year. There is a fingerprint sensor on the right of the rear camera which is used to unlock the device. Locally the handset will be available in Maple Gold, Midnight Black and Orchid Grey. The design of the smartphone is similar as well, but it has a rectangular body, which makes it resemble the Galaxy Note 7. And yes, the phone is IP68 certified.

As widely expected, the display screen is slightly larger than the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 Plus, making the new phone the largest-ever Note phone. It comes with a 18.5:9 aspect ratio as well. The phone is also said to have minimized bezels along with a curved screen. Note8 now features a capability that lets users use two applications at the same time simultaneously.

In the horsepower arena, we've got either an Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835 chip, 6GB of RAM and 64/128/256GB of storage. In terms of storage, the Note 8 will come in three capacities - 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

The Note8 comes with a 3,300 mAh battery and Fast Charging. Possibly, the Korean maker made a decision to play safe after the last year's battery debacle.

It would be appropriate to wait for the event to commence and see how things unfold. Interestingly, Samsung did not reveal the price of the smartphone.

It is likely to continue its best of class camera performance (better even than the much vaunted iPhone) and now features optical image stabilization on both the front and rear camera, flawless for generation selfie.

There are multiple camera features on board, the most prominent one being Live Focus.

Samsung didn't offer much detail on the new Gear VR, but here's what we do know.

There is a Dual Capture mode as well wherein both rear cameras take two pictures simultaneously. The front camera is an 8MP shooter with autofocus and f/1.7 aperture. When travelling overseas, you can use the improved S Pen Translate feature to hover over text to quickly translate it. It as a finer tip and improved pressure sensitivity. The phone also comes with a unique S-Pen stylus.

We can't forget the S-Pen now can we.

Rather than ignore the Note 7 catastrophe of past year Samsung's President of mobile communications DJ Koh acknowledge the event and thanked the fans of the firms Note series.
