Monday Night Match Up: Cowboys at Cardinals

Elliott owned up to his actions during the Cowboys' 42-17 loss to the Denver Broncos and took full responsibility.

The Dallas Cowboys once dominated a divisional rivalry with the Arizona Cardinals, but Arizona is 4-0 both straight up and against the spread in the last four meetings between the teams. Dallas is a 3-point favorite heading into Monday night, and that sounds about right. Now, we'll see how they respond.

Expose the pass coverage: As we all saw last week, Dallas still stinks in pass coverage.

If they do not get a healthy cornerback soon, it might be time for the Cowboys to pursue a veteran cornerback in a trade. Nevertheless, these teams have an opportunity to win on national TV and move to 2-1 on the season. Arizona maintained their ranking as just the No. 27 ranked offense in the league. But I feel Dallas are at a low ebb. I don't yet know if this team is as good as last year's team, but I certainly don't think the Cowboys are as bad as they looked in Denver.

For a little while during the past week it wasn't certain if Elliott would play Monday night. And being away from my home state, I'm extremely grateful for those fans because they make life easy for me being a Cowboys supporter. They need to post a win after absorbing such a nasty loss.

Here are five things Cowboys fans should know about the Cardinals ahead of the matchup.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals defense limited Indianapolis to just 2.6 yards per rush, recorded four sacks and picked off a Colts pass on the opening possession of overtime, setting up Dawson's game-winner. He failed to pull down a reception in the corner of the endzone (one of his strengths ), and he may have run some bad routes too - potentially that one resulting in Broncos corner taking an interception 103 yards for a touchdown.

The Cardinals are No. 26 in the league in scoring defense, having given up 48 points in their first two games. Dallas' most recent win against Arizona came November 12, 2006.

When two great teams go head to head on the gridiron, it's the team who wins in the trenches who usually wins on the scoreboard as well. (The Giants are close). It will be a battle of strengths, as Dallas's offense will be put to test against a talented Arizona defense.

PATRICK VS DEZ: The Cardinals like to put All-Pro Patrick Peterson on the opponent's best defender, and that means he'll be defending Dez Bryant.

But it didn't matter, because then the Cowboys just went back to getting blown out. Elliott said it was the first time in his life he ever ran for less than 10 yards.

The plan was for Prescott to serve as a backup last season, but when Tony Romo suffered a compression fracture to the L1 vertebra in his back during the Cowboys' third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, Prescott took over.
