This Yankee squad is talented, but there also isn't a ton of playoff experience from some of their key players. They struck out 13. But from there, it went downhill more quickly than a slalom championship run. And of course the Yankees won't be able to bullpen-game their way through the postseason.

Luis Severino wants another chance, as soon as Game 1 of the American League Division Series.

There are two dimensions to Gardner's game, however. "We've faced those guys".

The Yankees earned the date largely through the efforts of Gardner and of Robertson, who returned in a trade with the Chicago White Sox in July.

The Yankees' mix of young sluggers and veterans dug them out of it, seeing off the Twins in a raucous American League wild-card game 8-4.

The Twins twice denied the Yankees with jumping catches in that game, too - left fielder Shannon Stewart saved one run and possibly two on Ruben Sierra's shot in the second, and center fielder Torii Hunter pulled in an eighth-inning drive by Alex Rodriguez at the top of the wall. He threw more fastballs then, and now he throws more curveballs than ever. The Twins tainted some of that prestige Tuesday.

"I'm just excited for this opportunity", Judge said. Ervin Santana, who is 0-5 with a 6.43 ERA in six career starts at Yankee Stadium, gets the start for Minnesota opposite NY ace Luis Severino. All four of them were in the ALDS, all four were won by the Yankees, including two 3-game sweeps in their last two postseason encounters. Joe Girardi got another baby back in Greg Bird for the closing stretch of the regular season, while General Manager Brian Cashman added depth to the pitching before the trade deadline as it became clear that Girardi's team was in the playoff race.

Girardi said he didn't envision Severino getting shelled the way he did.

"I know I pushed some guys a little bit further than I would like, " Girardi said.

Hopefully Sano can get some reps in the cage, the Minnesota Twins can win a big game tonight, and we can all watch Sano with his timing back in place in the ALDS against the Indians! Gregorius erased the lead four batters into the bottom of the first, and Santana was removed after six outs and 64 pitches with the Twins trailing 4-3. Gardner puts the ball in play, steals bags, is a tough at-bat, and takes a lot of pitches. Three batters later, Didi Gregorius homered to tie the game.

"I feel good, I feel healthy", Sanchez said through an interpreter.

However Aaron Judge stepped to the plate and delivered a two run blast in the forth inning.
