Weinstein Co board ousts Harvey Weinstein after harassment allegations

He used that as a segue to the Weinstein scandal which on Sunday cost the film mogul his job when the Weinstein Company board of directors chose to terminate him.

Harvey Weinstein is a famous movie studio producer, who often appeared on the red carpet with his spouse Georgina Chapman. But last week it emerged that he would use his power in Hollywood to influence young movie stars into a sexual relationship with him.

"His employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately".

On Thursday, the Times published a lengthy exposé that chronicled decades of accusations against Weinstein, including one from actress Ashley Judd.

On Friday, the Weinstein Company board suspended Weinstein and said there would be an internal investigation, which will continue. He and attorney Charles Harder are planning to sue the paper for "false and defamatory statements", but Weinstein is fast losing allies, with attorney Lisa Bloom and adviser Lanny Davis resigning.

Among his other producing credits included films like Pulp Fiction, The Aviator, and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

"I have resigned as an advisor to Harvey Weinstein", the tweet said.

On Sunday, a statement was released regarding the firing and pointed at his alleged sexual misconduct has the primary reason of his departure.

While "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn tweeted, "If even 1/10th of the stories about Harvey Weinstein are true (and I believe they are), then good fucking riddance".

But as the crisis worsened, the film producer lost many of his allies.

The Democratic National Committee said in a statement that it would donate more than $30,000 to various causes, "including Emily's List, a political-action committee funding Democratic women candidates who support abortion rights", the Wall Street Journal says. One of them was a former news anchor who said that he didn't let her leave the hallway of a restaurant and started pleasuring himself in front of her.
